HOUSTON, TX – Britain’s innovative and exciting theatre company Kneehigh
makes their Texas debut at the Alley Theatre with a wonderfully
inventive, utterly timeless, delightful tale of love. King Mark rules
with his head, until he falls head over heels for his enemy’s sister.
Based on the ancient tale, Kneehigh’s Tristan & Yseult revels in
forbidden desires, broken hearts and grand passions. Seen through the
eyes of the 'Unloved,' Kneehigh’s Tristan & Yseult blends comedy, live
music and tender truths in an irresistible night of love! For
mature audiences, adult language and sexual situations.
The New
York Times says Kneehigh’s “crossing of emotional boundaries, which
sabotages our typical programmed responses as an audience, is the
shaping force of Tristan & Yseult. And I can’t think of another company
that achieves this dynamic as vividly and unexpectedly.” Called
“visually and emotionally intoxicating” by the NY Post, “Tristan &
Yseult is a sensory feast. Each design detail is integral to the story,
and brilliantly put to use by Rice and her cast . . . Kneehigh is
the gold standard of theatrical rigor, fortified by a heavy dose of
fun.”-Theatermania

“I love this production. It is one of those rare shows that is
greater than the sum of its parts” said Director Emma Rice. “It has
taken on a life, a universality that touches and surprises me each time
we perform it. As the story unfolds, I realize there is not one person
in that audience who doesn’t profoundly recognize something in the
situation; to love someone that you shouldn’t, to betray someone you
love, to be betrayed, to be left and most painful of all – to be
unloved.”
The cast of Kneehigh’s Tristan & Yseult features Niall
Ashdown as Morholt/Brangian, Damon Daunno as Frocin, Stuart Goodwin as
King Mark, James Gow as Musician, Dominic Marsh as Tristan, Pat Moran as
Musician and Music Director, Justin Radford as Musician, Hannah Vassallo
as Yseult, Lizzy Westcott as Musician, Kirsty Woodward as Whitehands and
