HOUSTON, TX … Presented by Cadillac Broadway Across America-Houston, CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG, the most fantasmagorical Broadway musical in the history of everything, flies into Houston February 24-March 7 at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts (800 Bagby).  Based on the timeless novel by Ian Fleming, author/creator of James Bond, the production features the music and lyrics by the legendary Sherman brothers, composers of Mary Poppins. The national tour boasts an entirely new creative team, original script and fresh adaptation directed by Ray Roderick. 

 

The national touring cast of CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG includes Steve Wilson (Caractacus Potts), who appeared in Broadway’s Sunday in the Park with George; Kelly McCormick (Truly Scrumptious), who was seen in the National Tour and regional productions of Les Misérables; Dick Decareau (Grandpa Potts), who has a 28 career in theatre both on Broadway and Off-Broadway; George Dvorsky (Baron Bomburst/Lord Scrumptious), who has appeared in Broadway’s The Scarlet Pimpernel and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, among others; Elizabeth Ward Land (Baroness Bomburst/ Miss. Phillips), who has been seen on Broadway and in National tours including The Scarlet Pimpernel, Passion, and City of Angels; Dirk Lumbard (Boris), who appeared in Broadway’s Chitty Chitty Bang Bang; Scott Cote (Goran), who has appeared in Cabaret and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast; Richard G. Rodgers (Coggins/Toymaker), who was most recently seen in the world premiere of Glimmerglass; Oliver Wadsworth (Junkman/Childcatcher), who has been seen Off-Broadway in Endpapers and Well; Aly Brier (Jemima Alternate/Orphan), who is thrilled to be making her National Tour debut; Jeremy Lipton (Jeremy Alternate/ Orphan), who has appeared in Oliver and Les Misérables; Camille Mancuso (Jemima Alternate/ Orphan), who has been seen regionally in  Annie and The Sound of Music; and Zachary Carter Sayle (Jeremy Alternate/ Orphan), who has appeared in The Sound of Music and Les Misérables.  The ensemble includes Bianca Burgess, Mark Chmiel, Paige Faure, Trey Gillen, Cameron Henderson, Timothy Hughes, Matthew Brandon Hutchens, Kevin Leary, Kent M. Lewis, Chris Klink, Molly Mahoney, Alison Marchese, Ellie Mooney, Tiffany Lee Ocvirk, Michelle Petrucci, John Saunders, and Molly Tynes.

Eight local young performers will appear in the children’s ensemble as orphan’s including Jacquelyn Blomquist, Joshua Bolden, Cullen King, Miho Christine Maeda, Mason McDonald, Abigail Moorhead, Janie Stewart, and Kerry Rose Sullivan

CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG will officially launch its first North American tour at the Broward Center in Ft. Lauderdale on November 18th, 2008.  It will continue to dazzle cities across the U.S. including Tampa , Appleton , Baltimore , Dayton , San Antonio , Houston , Pittsburgh , Providence , Philadelphia , Orlando , Atlanta , Indianapolis , Louisville , Albuquerque , Salt Lake City , Tempe and Costa Mesa .

The Broadway production of CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG received 5 Tony Award nominations, 10 Outer Critics Circle Award nominations and 4 Drama Desk nominations during its’ Broadway run at the Hilton Theatre.  It opened on April 28, 2005.  The London production of CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG was nominated for 3 Laurence Olivier Awards in 2003, including Best New Musical, and won Best Musical at the Variety Club Awards in 2003.  The production opened on April 16, 2002 to rave reviews and record-breaking business at the London Palladium and continues to sell-out on tour across the U.K.

This stage adaptation of CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG features a beloved score, including memorable classics such as “Truly Scrumptious,” “Toot Sweets,” “Hushabye Mountain” and the Oscarâ-nominated title song, “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.” 

CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG was originally directed by Adrian Noble on Broadway.  This newly conceived version, with direction and adapted script by Ray Roderick, features sets and costumes by renowned English designer Anthony Ward, additional set designs by Robert Bissinger and lighting by Charlie Morrison. Choreography is by Joanne Hunter

The national tour of CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG is executive produced by Dan Sher of Big League Productions.
