FAME, THE MUSICAL

March 21 - 26, 2000
Direct from London's West End

FAME - THE MUSICAL
DIRECT FROM LONDON'S WEST END!
First came the smash hit motion picture, then the long-running popular TV series and now, FAME - THE MUSICAL dances into the Wortham Center's Brown Theatre March 21 - 26, 2000.

A musical testament to the hopeful, young dreamer in all of us, FAME - THE MUSICAL features a dynamic cast of 25 performers. Set in the 1980's, FAME - THE MUSICAL focuses
on the hopes, dreams and aspirations of a group of students attending New York's High School of Performing Arts on West 46th Street. The musical chronicles their four-year odyssey from
audition to graduation at the school whose unofficial motto is "Fame costs and this is where you start paying." The mix of strongly motivated students - impoverished and privileged, black and
white - gives the story its passion and dramatic tension.

Conceived by David De Silva, with a book by Jose Fernandez, lyrics by Jacques Levy and music by Steve Margoshes, this high-energy production will be directed and choreographed by Lars
Bethke.

A R T

May 30 - June 4, 2000
1998 Tony Award Winning Best Play

ART
DIRECT FROM BROADWAY!
Winner of the 1998 Tony Award for Best Play, London's Olivier and London Evening Standard
Awards for Best Comedy, Yasmina Reza's international hit play, ART goes on display in Jones
Hall May 30 - June 4, 2000. This comedy centers on three men whose friendship is thrown into
turmoil over, of all things, a painting.

The play's debate about a piece of modern art turns into an exploration of the nature of
friendship, male friendship in particular. The premise of this debate is brought on by Serge, the
art lover, who purchases a canvas that is for practical purposes, completely white. His longtime
friend, Marc, is infuriated by what he sees as the stupidity of such a move. His anger causes him
to question the entire basis of their friendship. Yvan, their mutual friend, tries to mediate, but
finds himself caught in the crossfire.

Christopher Hampton's English translation of Reza's hit French play opened October 15, 1996 at
Wyndham's Theatre in London with its North American premiere September 12, 1997 in Mexico
City.

event of the season June 27 - July 9, 2000. Co-directed by Sam Mendes and Rob Marshall, this production brings the seedy glamour of the legendary Kit Kat Club to Houston, after being the

TITANIC, THE MUSICAL

July 11 - 23, 2000
1997 Tony Award Winning Best Musical

TITANIC - DIRECT FROM BROADWAY
TITANIC. A NEW MUSICAL, Broadway's Tony Award-winning phenomenon, is scheduled to
set sail July 11 - 23 into Jones Hall. More than eighty-five years after the R.M. S. Titanic first
sailed into history, the story behind the legendary maiden voyage opened at Broadway's Lunt-
Fontanne Theatre on April 23, 1997. TITANIC soon went on to win five Tony Awards, every
category in which it was nominated, taking the awards for Best Musical, Best Book, Best Score,
Best Orchestrations, and Best Sets.

As one boards this ship of dreams, the lives and yearnings of the crew, staff and passengers
unfold against TITANICs awesome backdrop of facts more incredible than any fiction. The
pride of nautical engineering, the largest moving object in the world, the "unsinkable" R.M.S
Titanic went down in just two and a half hours after steaming full speed into an iceberg.

Directed by Richard Jones, the acclaimed British director, TITANIC has a story and book by
Academy Award and Tony Award-winner Peter Stone. Choreography is by Lynne Taylor-
Corbett, with sets and costumes by Stewart Laing, and lighting design by Paul Gallo.
