By Jaclyn Backhaus
FEB - MARCH 2018
Men on Boats is by Jaclyn Backhaus and tells the story of Major John Wesley
Powell’s 1869 government-sanctioned expedition of the Colorado River and the
Grand Canyon. It’s a mostly accurate (and rather comic) accounting of the
adventure, and much of the script is based on Powell’s journal. “It’s
interesting for me to take that idea of male conquest, give it to someone who
usually doesn’t have that right, and put that into the roles themselves,” says
Backhaus. “It begs the question of what histories are we lacking.”

DAISY
by SEAN DEVINE
March 31 – April 29, 2018
It is the fall of 1964. With a presidential election looming, a
group of advertisers working for Lyndon B. Johnson unleash the most infamous
political commercial ever conceived: the “Daisy” ad. It played only once, but it
carved a scar deep into the American psyche. Based on actual people and events,
Daisy explores the power of manipulation and the moment in television history
that launched the age of negative ad campaigns -- and forever changed how we
elect our leaders.
