STAGES REPERTORY THEATRE
OPENS TIMELY NEW PLAY

CAR POOL

Examines America’s Corporate Culture

William Hardy (Front) stars in Laura Hembree's CARPOOL presented by Stages Repertory Theatre from March 14th through April 8th, 2001.

Houston, Tx - Stages Repertory Theatre is proud to present the Southwest premiere of Laura Hembree’s poignant look at the corporate workplace, CAR POOL. Directed by Peter Webster, CAR POOL previews March 14 and 15, and opens on Friday, March 16, 2001. Performances run Wednesday through Sundays through April 8, 2001.

Five men, one car and a daily commute from the suburbs are the elements that ignite CAR POOL, an incisive examination of how corporate culture impacts the lives of its employees. The effects of a work plagued by downsizing, layoffs and fear are traced over a six - month period in the conversations of these “grandsons of Willy Loman”, who must cope with crisis not only in their careers, but in their personal lives as well. Several of the issues raised by the recent spate of corporate and dot-com layoffs are addressed in this well-timed new production. The New York Times calls CAR POOL “a smart, neatly - tailored work.”

Laura Hembree is one of off-Broadway’s most promising up - coming playwrights. CAR POOL is her first play. Peter Webster, whose previous credits include the Cocoanuts for Stages, recently directed Houston Grand Opera’s charming adaptation of LITTLE WOMEN.

Actor Williams Hardy returns to Stages after his role in the recent Old Wicked Songs as well as appearances in Quills, Funny Girl, Ascendancy and Dog Opera. A veteran of the Houston stage, he has also served as a director - in - residence at the Alley Theatre and directed The Moon is Blue at Stages. Also returning to Stages is actor Manning Mott, who has made appearances in several EarlyStages Children’s Theatre productions as well as the Main Stage play Valley Song. Stages continues to tap new talent from the Houston Community as actors David Born, Jim Lawrence and Timothy Wrobel all make their Stages debut.

Single tickets are available at 713-527-8243 or at Stages Box Office, 3201 Allen Parkway at Waugh Drive. Ticket prices range from $19 to $42 with student and senior discounts available. Performances run Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:30pm, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm and Sundays at 3:00pm
