SUNSET BOULEVARD

Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical masterpiece kicks off the 1998 - 1999
MasterCard Broadway Series theatre season December 22 - 27, 1998 in Jones Hall.

World-renowned recording artist and star of stage and screen, Petula Clark assumes
the legendary role of Norma Desmond in this all-new production. Tickets for the Houston
engagement of SUNSET BOULEVARD are on sale now and can be purchased at all
Ticketmaster ticket centers or charge-by-phone at 713-629-3700.
Prices range from $25.00 - $49.50.

Based on Billy Wilder's classic 1950 film, this passionate love story is set on Hollywood's
street of dreams. SUNSET BOULEVARD tells the story of a young, down-on-his-luck
screen writer, Joe Gillis (Lewis Cleale), and his fateful meeting with legendary silent film
star, Norma Desmond (Petula Clark). Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's sweeping, romantic
melodies soar against the glamorous backdrop of 1950's, Hollywood, from the Paramount
Pictures backlot, to Schwab's famous drugstore, to the decadent splendor of Norma
Desmond's mansion. Both mesmerizing and visually stunning, SUNSET BOULEVARD conveys
the desperation and paranoia created when the lavish Hollywood of the 1920's collide with
the cold realities of the late 1940's film industry.

Described by her contemporaries as ". . . the real thing," SUNSET BOULEVARD star Petula
Clark has more gold discs to her credit than any other British artist. With a total world record
sales well in excess of 30 million, international film and music star, Petula Clark is still one of
the most sought after recording artists and concert personalities in the world today.

After fifty years in show business, her career continues to develop and her popularity soars.
From a string of top ten hits including "Downtown" to screen roles starring opposite the likes
of Fred Astaire and Peter O'Toole, from sold-out stage tours in Canada, Australia and America
to packed houses in London's West End, on Broadway, across Europe and the U.S., Petula
Clark has been keeping the "beat" going since 1949!

Directed by Broadway veteran Susan H. Schulman, this all-new production has music by Sir
Andrew Lloyd Webber, with book and lyrics by Don Black and Christopher Hampton.
