TUTS SALUTES 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF "A CHORUS LINE" WITH
NEW PRODUCTION
HOUSTON, TEXAS
One singular sensation celebrates 30 years! Theatre Under The Stars will produce a 30th
anniversary production of the Tony Award-winning A Chorus Line from October 21 - November 7, 2004 at the Hobby
Center for the Performing Arts (800 Bagby at Walker). Featuring a book by James Kirkwood and Nicholas Dante, lyrics by
Edward Kleban, and music by Marvin Hamlisch, A Chorus Line made its New York debut in the 1974-75 Season to
become one of the longest-running musicals in Broadway history. Featuring such songs as "One," "Dance: Ten, Looks: Three,"
and "What I Did For Love," A Chorus Line took home 10 Tony Awards, including "Best Musical."
A Chorus Line tells the story of a group of performers auditioning for a Broadway show. All the performers come from
different backgrounds and have varying abilities. In between learning audition moves, they each reveal their most personal
stories in interviews with the director, Zach.
After a brief run at the Public Theatre, A Chorus Line moved to Broadway on July 25, 1975, where it remained at the
Shubert Theatre for the next 15 years. The show closed in 1990 after 6,137 performances. In addition to its Tony Awards,
the breakthrough musical also won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award, the Pulitzer Prize, and five Drama Desk
Awards. As creator, choreographer, and director of the original 1975 production of A Chorus Line, Tony Award-winner
Michael Bennett became know as one of the most successful directors and choreographers of Broadway musicals in the
1970s.
